Week 6 — “Star Girl”
Hey Pilates People!
Happy Sunday!
Before we dive in, I just want to take a moment to acknowledge the truly amazing work you're doing - inside and out. Can you feel it? I can. So, if nothing else, please, lean on, trust me and keep going. Because whatever you're doing, it's working and you're killing it.
As we walk into this next week together, I'm thinking about a quote I wrote in a book that I gave away to someone who I was very much hoping would have the time and space to get to know me - the girl who's so obsessed with the stars that she reads Stephen Hawking while getting her nails done:
"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up." -- Stephen Hawking
I'm fairly certain he never got around to reading that quote, or its accompanying book (and who can blame him really? Two dates in and I hand him a book on Quantum Physics in an effort to help us get to know each other more. Seriously, someone please help me...I have no actual idea how to interact with other humans), and there wasn't really a chance to get to know each other before he was swept half a world away. But, in this new reality of "no rules," we're still under the same stars full of time and space and we've decided that's gotta mean something.
Back to my point though...having done his homework (or not) he somehow found his way to reciting all of the things in one of my all time favorite quotes back to me in a moment when I felt the world spinning a little too quickly for what my balance could handle.
And so here we are, my friends. Pilates People is very much a result of his hands on my shoulders, steadying me as he said, "This is it. This is your moment," and continuing to say that to me every day and night until I was ready to listen and look up at the possibilities. For that, he's now forever a part of my story, and yours too if you think about it.
And there it is. The first chapter of this work in progress - a string of people reaching out to people, no matter how near or far.
Let's keep going, remembering all those who have gotten us where we are now and all those for whom it matters that we stay curious and don't just give up.
Know that I'm here, with my hands distantly on your shoulders cheering you on every single day. Whether we've met in person, or are destined to meet under some future sky, I believe in you and hope you can see the possibilities circling around you.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay wonderfully and remarkably curious.
All my love. Always,
C
